CAUSES

The San Diego Half Marathon is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation committed to youth fitness and wellness. Your support of the San Diego Half Marathon events and Epic Run Store directly benefit local youth, including our new Screen-to 5K program for youth. All our charitable efforts are now under our new charity organization, Million Mile Charities.

Did you know that:

  • 29% of youth are considered overweight (19% obese)
  • 40% in the hispanic and the black community (25% obese). 
  • 20% of youth have prediabetes risk & are at high risk for Type 2 diabetes. 
  • 25% of hispanic community at high risk for type 2 diabetes
  • Children average 7.5 hours per day in front of a screen (phone,TV, computer)
  • Regular physical activity helps children REDUCE risk to:
    • Anxiety and depression
    • Diabetes
    • Heart disease
    • Obesity

Regular physical activity IMPROVES:

      • Confidence 
      • Better school grades  
      • Better behavior

Our past youth fitness and wellness support includes:

  • Padres Kids Fun Run 
  • San Diego 5K family pack and virtual youth runs 
  • Mini Mermaid and Young Triton’s running clubs 
  • Running track build-out for Green Elementary (Lake Murray area San Diego)
  • Sienna’s playgarden at Rolling Hills park. 
  • Trinity youth soccer club for underprivileged youth. 
  • Skinny Gene Project for pre-diabetes family services 

2020 and covid has further impacted the youth with lack of fitness, and increased depression. The San Diego Half Marathon, our series of events, and the Epic Run Store are committed to local programs to get youth back to being fit and well in 2021. Your support is important!
