RACE DAY CHECKLIST

We highly recommend downloading and reading our race morning checklist that also has pro race tips and safety information.

GEAR CHECK – New!

Gear Check is a way to store your extra clothing in a secured area while you are out on the course (i.e. layers before the race or a change of clothes).

Gear Check drop-off/pickup is complementary and is located on the south side of K St & Fourth Avenue, adjacent to MLK Park, behind the Hilton Gaslamp, 401 K St, San Diego, CA 92101. New in 2022, we are using numbered gear check trucks that will provide matching tags for both your bib and your bag. If needed, clear bags will also be available.

Please do not put valuables in your gear bag, as we cannot be responsible for any lost or stolen items. Unattended items found at the start or along the course will be donated to charity.

PRE + POST-RACE RESTROOMS

Pre-race portable restrooms will be available adjacent to Start Waves along Harbor Drive (and before the race on 4th Avenue & K St.).

Post-race portable restrooms will be located on 4th Avenue & K St.

Course Support

Water will be served and Portable restrooms will be available at the following half marathon miles: 1.0, 3.1, 4.8, 6.2, 8.2, 9.4, 10.7, 11.9 and at 5K miles: 1.0, 2.0

Ultima Replenisher electrolyte drink will be served in Ultima-branded cups approximately every 3 miles and will precede water at the following half marathon miles: 3.1 (watermelon flavor), 6.2 (raspberry orange flavor), 8.2 (orange flavor), and 10.7 (watermelon).

Hüma Chia Energy Gels: Strawberry, Chocolate, Lemonade, and Raspberry flavored gels will be available at the halfway at mile 6.2.

Medical tents are stationed at half marathon miles: 3.1, 6.7, 9.5, 11.9 and at the finish line.

Race Guards, a uniformed in-race first aid team, will be starting with each wave.

Help keep San Diego clean! Recycling receptacles for cups will be placed along the route within ~25 yards after each aid station.

PACE SUPPORT

Do you have a half marathon goal? Our friends at West Coast Road Runners (WCRR) are here to help you get there! On race morning, look for the red road runner pace signs at the start line, or you can meet your pacer by visiting their booth at the Expo.

TROLLEY CROSSING – heads up!

The half marathon route crosses trolley tracks at Mile 12.4 (10K Mile 5.5) at the intersection of 6th Ave & C St. The 5K route crosses trolley tracks at Mile 2.0 at the intersection of Kettner & G St.

At these locations, trolleys may be held for several minutes to minimize any impact to runners. Please be aware of these mile points, as you may be asked to slow down or stop if a trolley is ready to cross. Your safety is of primary importance.

TIME LIMITS

  • The San Diego Half Marathon has a time limit of 3 hours 30 mins (max 16 min/mile pace for each mile)
  • The San Diego 10K has a time limit of 1 hours 45 mins  (max 16 min/mile pace for each mile)
  • The San Diego 5K has a limit of 1 hour (19 min/mile pace for each mile).

These limits are enforced in order to re-open roads to vehicular traffic. If you exceed this limit, you may be asked to finish as a pedestrian or use our shuttles to facilitate your return to downtown.

PROFESSIONAL PHOTOS

Smile! MarathonFoto, our official race photographer, will be all along the course and at the finish line.  For the link to your photos, visit our Results page, as professional photos will be available for purchase online within 3 days.
